Off-Duty Policeman Killed, Joe Paterno Loses Halo, Car Plunges 30 feet from I 676

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was killed after his shift early this morning while riding his bicycle and was struck by a hit and run driver. Investigators are looking into reports that the officer was struck by someone he knew, and had an argument with earlier in the day. Police recovered a white Acura believed to be the car involved in the collision.

Joe Paterno has lost his halo. The artist who added a halo to a mural at Penn State after Joe Pa's death has removed it as the fallout from the Louis Freeh report continues. In addition to NCAA sanctions penalizing Penn State's athletic programs, criminal charges will likely be filed against high ranking University officials involved in the cover up. And all the bad publicity is sure to hurt enrollment and fundraising.

A car plunged off of I 676, fell about 30 feet to the ground and both passengers are okay. Camden police say the Ford Explorer was speeding, the driver lost control, rolled it, struck a concrete barrier then fell off the highway. The passengers were taken to Cooper Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sports
Tonight the Phillies move to Los Angeles for a 3 games series with the Dodgers.

Weather
Lots of sun and heat. Around 92 degrees in Philadelphia.
