Doylestown Breastfeeding Law, No Philadelphia County Voter ID, Kraft Killer Gets Two Life Terms

Doylestown Borough Council passed an amendment to the borough's anti-discrimination law protecting their right to breastfeed in public. Under the new measure, women can file a complaint when they are asked to leave any place or asked to go to a restroom to breastfeed. Behind Philadelphia, Doylestown is the second municipality in the state to pass such a law. There is already a statewide Freedom to Breastfeed Act which permits public feeding and makes sure the woman does not get cited for indecent exposure. The Doylestown amendment will also help give added protection to their civil rights, even if it is a little redundant.

Philadelphia County says it will not issue Voter IDs through the county nursing facilities or Philadelphia Community College. Montgomery County and Allegheny County have begun to issue such institutional photo IDs in advance of the November election. The Philadelphia city law department is not sure such identification would be acceptable at polling centers. Instead, to focus its resources, the city has begun to ramp up it's efforts to get the word out about the requirements of the new Voter ID law and to provide transportation to registered voters to PennDOT centers so they can obtain proper identification cards if they need one.

Yvonne Hiller of Lawncrest shot three coworkers at the Kraft-Nabisco cookie plant in Northeast Philadelphia in September 2010. She had been arguing with coworkers earlier that day and was fired from her job. She returned to the bakery later, bursting into the employee break room and began to shoot. Hiller killed two people, LaTonya Brown, 36, and Tanya Wilson, 47; and injured another, Bryant Dalton, 41. Hiller waived her right to a jury trial and was found guilty on all counts earlier this month. Today was the sentencing hearing, filled with emotions as victims' relatives had a chance to speak. Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner sentenced her to two consecutive life terms without parole.
