The Philadelphia Water Department is advising those in the University City section of Philadelphia that their water may be affected by recent maintenance work. 'Rusty water' has appeared in the area after crews performed routine maintenance on water pipes in University City. While it's not a health concern, crews are in the process of identifying the extent of the area and flushing hydrants to push the rusty water out. Customers in University City are urged to limit the use of water, especially hot water, until the rusty water is completely cleared from the pipes Water quality checks will be made in the area Monday night and Tuesday.

One person is dead after a double shooting in the city’s Brewerytown neighborhood. The incident happened last night at 23rd and Stewart Streets inside an auto-body shop. The first victim, a 25-year-old male, was shot once in the back. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 7:38 p.m. The second victim, a 21-year-old male, was shot once in the right hand. He was transported to Temple by private vehicle, where he is listed in stable condition. An investigation is ongoing.

The proposed creation of a statewide panel on Alzheimer’s disease has been approved by the state House of Representatives. The measure approved Monday would set up a 23-member Alzheimer’s Disease State Planning Committee chaired by the state secretary of aging. The panel would develop a strategy for dealing with an expected increase in the number of people with Alzheimer’s. The bill awaits action by the state Senate.
