WEGO Disbanding Police Department, Philadelphia Police Officer Fires on Suspect, Josey-Guzman Video

Plans right now are to move forward with disbanding the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police department. The East Goshen board of supervisors indicated contingency plans are being considered. Options include being covered by the state police or starting a new police department and residents want to know how much a new department would cost. Supervisors indicated reaching a deal is still possible and disbanding the regional police department may not be necessary.

A suspect was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition after he was shot by a police officer in South Philadelphia Tuesday night. After being chased by the officer southbound on Hemberger Street, the suspect pointed a gun at the officer. The officer fired striking the man three times in the leg and once in the buttocks. The officer has been placed on desk duty while an investigation by Internal Affairs and the District Attorney’s Office is conducted.

The YouTube video of Lt. Jonathan Josey punching Aida Guzman, has gone viral, picked up by news networks across the country. A short clip of the original video shows Guzman spraying silly string in the direction of police officers. None of the officers seems to notice, and none of the silly string appears to hit Lt. Josey. Police Chief Ramsey said officers are trained to only use force that is necessary to make arrests and said Sunday’s incident was, in excess of what was needed to bring the situation under control.
