A child is dead after a fall from a window in West Philadelphia yesterday. It happened at an apartment complex in the Powelton section. A 22 month old boy was playing with his 3 year old sister while their mother was in another room. After the fall from the fifth story window, the child was rushed to Children’s Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Philadelphia City Council and Mayor Michael Nutter’s office have agreed to install video cameras at 150 recreation centers and playgrounds around the city. Since the rape of a 12 year old girl last summer, the surveillance camera plan has been put on the fast track and over the next three years will be recording activities.

The 800 block of South Street was evacuated yesterday after a wall collapsed at a lot under construction. Eight people were displaced by the collapse according to the Red Cross. Authorities say rain washed away temporary shoring and caused a mudslide leading to the collapse. There were no injuries.
