| Day 2 Dave Matthews Band Caravan Worldly Music Decends |

Saturday, Day 2, has came and went on Bader field and it was another perfect day. Slightly cooler and less windy than Friday, but couldn't have ordered up a better sky. The crowd was definitely much larger and earlier arriving that Friday, but that was expected as the weekend is in full swing.
That large crowd also had to keep moving back and forth all day. from one stage to the next like they were attached in the head, from Dave & Tim, to Thievery Corporation, then back to Guster, then to Damien Marley, then to either O.A.R. or Warren Haynes (younger to the left older to the right), then back for DMB.
Anyway, today is when the world music descended upon the festival. First off we had an excellent set by the world renowned peacemaker and musicmaker from South Africa, Vusi Mahlasela. We were just blessed to hear him.
Thievery Corporation pulled off an amazing live set of their usually DJ based dub, lounge, chillout, acid jazz material. They incorporated their full band and pulled together their assorted range of collaborators and vocalists to showoff their reggae, Middle Eastern, Indian, bossa nova, and latin influences.
If they were hinting at reggae influence in their set, Damian Marley certainly brought it full force from Jamaica. He is definitely his father's son, true to music, the performance, and the audience, a little political/ideological, but passionate, and very good at what he does. Marley played all originals, including 'Welcome to Jamrock', but did throw in on of Bob's, 'Could You Be Loved?' at the end.
Not so worldly, but worth mentioning was Guster's set. From being writ off as a college band back in the late 90's to commanding a large percentage of a festival's attendance is great sign of endurance for these guys from Boston. Their set was an even mix of that first early material and some of their great new releases and the crowd was singing along to it all. I guess every year kids go to college, maybe they get a Guster CD along with a copy Bob Marley Legend at orientation.
oh yeah, and Dave Matthews Band played too. This was a decent show all around. Dave himself seemed a little out of sorts, stepping back for lines of verses at beginnings of songs. Funny, even started the band off in the wrong key too, don't know how they manage that. Anyway, just rusty.
The real highlights were the guests. It was a given that Vusi Mahlasela would join the band for 'Everyday' since he sung on the album track. Anyway, he was thrown by the audience singing his parts at first but him and Dave a great time dancing and singing.
Warren Haynes joined the band for #41, then taking the solo toward the end that's usually Boyd's and/or Jeff Coffin's. Haynes was incredible slowly building long jam to a roaring crescendo before engaging Tim Reynolds in a guitar battle that the each went lick for lick.
This night wasn't done yet for guests, Dave invited Leon Mobley up with the band, who is working with Damien Marley as percussionist, to close out the encore with 'Two Step' 'Warehouse'.
Unlike Friday, this show didn't end early, though Sunday's show is only scheduled to go until 10:00. We can only wonder if the band has any tricks up their sleeves. They've been played a lot of later material the first two nights. Who knows.

| Thanks for catching that. I remembered Two Step, but dmband.com had it listed as Warehouse last night, so I guessed I was mistaken, or I left too early, or it was just late and I was tired. Then they just played Warehouse now so I got confused again and checked. Thanks! another late review/wrap up of Day 3 after the show. |
