Amy Winehouse Autopsy Inconclusive

The singer's autopsy, which was conducted today, came back with inconclusive results from the medical examiner's office in London. Toxicology results will not be available for 2-4 weeks. Officials read a short statement with the details and stated the matter will be officially revisited in October, however it will probably be opened sooner as results are available.

The embattled star was found dead in her London apartment on Saturday. Although these autopsy results are inconclusive, it is probably safe to assume that Winehouse died of a drug overdose of sorts. She has famously battled alcohol and drug addiction. Most recently she was booed off stage in Belgrade, Romania after not being able to perform, stumbling through songs and around the stage.

Amy Winehouse was only 27. She joins an infamous list of other artists who died at that age. Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison are most noted for their untimely demise at 27.

Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system when she died, and it is still unclear what killed the singer. The family said in a statement that toxicology tests showed "alcohol was present" in the singer's body but it hasn't yet been determined if it contributed to her death.

A statement released by spokesman Chris Goodman on the family's behalf said "toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death." The statement did not mention whether any legal drugs were found.

It said the family awaits the outcome of an inquest that is due to begin in October.
