A suicidal mother and her 2-year-old child are injured after jumping out of a 2-stroy window in North Philadelphia this morning. It happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 2000 block of Diamond St. The 2-year-old was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and is in critical condition. The 36-year-old mother was taken to Temple University Hospital and is stable condition. It is not clear if the mother threw the baby first or hung on to the child while jumping. The grandmother, who lives in the home in a wheelchair, says her daughter has threatened to jump before. She herself injured her leg while trying to stop her this morning and was taken to Einstein Medical Center.

Earlier this week, nurses at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Upper Darby walked off the job for a planned two-day strike. However, when they tried to return to work they were turned away until Friday. Prospect Medical Holdings, a for-profit company that took over the hospital last year when it bought Crozer, says that the temporary staffing company it used to replace the striking nurses requires a five day minimum. Bill Cruice with the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals says, "We believe that the extra three days of the lockout is punitive on the part of the hospital." They plan on filing a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.

The Siegel Jewish Community Center on Garden of Eden Road in Talleyville, DE, just outside Wilmington, was evacuated this morning after receiving a bomb threat. New Castle County police say the center received a bomb threat by e-mail overnight and called police around 7:45. The building was evacuated around 9 a.m. The all clear was given and the building was reopened about an hour later. This is the second threat to the Siegel JCC in about a week and the 4th in the last two months.
