Rocky Statue reopens at Art Museum; Two PA Congressman Not At Baseball Attack; PA Plastic Bag Bill

Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that the iconic Rocky Statue is once again accessible to the public and open to visitors. Two weeks ago, on May 30th, the area immediately around the statue off to the right of the bottom of the Art Museum stairs was closed off for site improvements. That work has been completed and visitors can now get their picture taken next to the famous statue once again. Also this morning, Philadelphia Police rookies and the Sixers participated in a join workout on the Art Museum steps.

Two Pennsylvania Congressman were scheduled to be at this morning's GOP congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, but did not make it for varying reasons. That practice and the Republican congressman on the field were the target of a shooting. Rep. Ryan Costello (R-6th) represents parts of Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties. He was dressed and ready for practice but missed his usual ride at 6 a.m. with other congressman and headed back to his office instead. Rep. Pat Meehan (R-7th), who represents Delaware, Montgomery, Berks and Lancaster counties had a speaking engagement at a breakfast and couldn't attend. Five people were injured including Republican majority whip Rep. Steve Scalise. His Capitol Police security detail shot and killed the shooter.

A bill passed in the Pennsylvania Senate and is heading to Governor Tom Wolf's desk that would prevent cities and other local municipalities from banning or taxing plastic bags. Wolf has not indicated whether he'd sign or veto the bill. Philadelphia and some suburban leaders voted against it. The bill would prevent local municipalities from banning, taxing, surcharging or assessing fees for recyclable plastic bags provided to consumers at the point of sale.
