Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Tim Murphy is resigning from Congress. "This afternoon I received a letter of resignation from Congressman Tim Murphy, effective October 21. It was Dr. Murphy's decision to move on to the next chapter of his life, and I support it. We thank him for his many years of tireless work on mental health issues here in Congress and his service to the country as a naval reserve officer," House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement. Murphy previously said he would not seek re-election but would "take personal time to seek help as my family and I continue to work through our personal difficulties." Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published text messages between Murphy and his mistress Shannon Edwards. Murphy, who is supposedly pro-life, asked Edwards to have an abortion. A January 25th text message from Edwards to Murphy said, "zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options." He responded referring to his policy messages, "I've never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don't write any more." Edwards turned out to be pregnant. Their affair became public during her own divorce proceedings this summer. Murphy is in his eighth term. He represents the 18th District in Southwest Pennsylvania which covers parts of suburban Pittsburgh. Governor Wolf will have to call for a special election to fill the vacant seat.

Two students have been suspended and face possible expulsion after a photo of a Delaware high school mascot holding a sign with a racial slur was posted to social media. The photo shows the 'Rider' mascot of Caesar Rodney High School in Wyoming, Kent County, holding a piece of paper that reads, "{slur} don't belong at CR!" (see below) Delaware State Police say that no charges will be filed. "The Delaware State Police have concluded our portion into the investigation and have turned over the findings to the Caesar Rodney School District who will conduct their own internal investigation. After consultation with the Delaware Attorney General's Office, no charges will be sought." The district superintendent, Kevin Fitzgerald, says the district has "zero tolerance for this behavior."

Bensalem Police announced a major drug bust and arrests stemming from a recent traffic stop. Last Friday evening, police pulled over a Toyota Tacoma pickup near I-95 and Street Road because it had illegally tinted windows. A K-9 discovered a secret compartment in the truck containing 6 kilos of heroin worth $4 million. Police discovered more paraphernalia and $50,000 cash when searching a home in Wissinoming. The driver, 30-year-old Edward Torres, was already on house arrest out of Camden for robbery. He was wearing his ankle bracelet when arrested. Two other men, 27-year-old Sergio Landeros and 41-year-old Alejantro Granados, were also arrested. All three are being held in Bucks County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail each.
