Major Drug Bust in North Philly; Gov Wolf Rejects District Map; Sentimental Items Stolen From Woman

Pennsylvania authorities announced a major multi-million dollar drug bust and two arrests in Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said that 24-year-old Cesar Guzman and 30-year-old Duagermy Sanchez-Rosario, both of the 4300 block of North 4th Street, were arrested on Sunday night. They had 7.2 kilograms of heroin and fentanyl worth $2.6 million and capable of creating 250,000 doses. The pair was mixing the heroin with fentanyl creating a deadly combination. Shapiro said, "That's 250,000 potential death sentences averted." The Sunday night raid came after a month long investigation. They are charged with possession with intent to deliver, dealing in proceeds and criminal conspiracy, among other related offenses. They are being held on $1.5 million bail each.

Governor Tom Wolf has rejected the Republican legislative leaders' redrawn congressional districting map submitted to him last week. Wolf says that although the map looks better it still contains gerrymandering and is highly partisan. He enlisted Moon Duchin, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Mathematics at Tufts University to provide analysis of the map (read her statement). Wolf still has until February 19th to submit a map to the PA Supreme Court before the justices take it upon themselves to craft the 18 district map. The governor hasn't produced a map of his own. Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and House Speaker Mike Turzai responded to the Governor with a letter published on Twitter.

Sentimental items were stolen from an 85-year-old woman's home in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday morning. It happened between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on the 9200 block of Crispin Street at the home of Dorothy Adair. She lives alone after her husband, Francis, died last May. The thief or thieves made off with a quilt made of her husbandâ€™s favorite T-shirts and a jewelry box that had his dog tags and rosary. (see photo below) According to her daughter, Fran Adair Ezzai, she slept with the blanket every night. "We just want the items back, no questions asked, Sheâ€™s just heartbroken. Anything else we can replace," said Ezzai. If you have any information, call police at 215-686-3154/3153.
