PA Attorney General Shapiro Pleads Law Change; Toddler Remains Found Camden; Car Fire in Folcroft

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was at the Norristown courthouse on Friday. The location of Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial was the backdrop as he spoke out to Pennsylvania legislators to "do the right thing." Specifically, Shapiro is appealing to PA Senate Republicans to pass a law that would get rid of the statue of limitations so victims of child sex abuse can file civil suits. The PA House has already passed a law that would suspend the statute of limitations on older cases and give clergy abuse victims two years to file. Shapiro said he doesn't know how any lawmaker could read the recent grand jury report and not vote to change the law. On Friday, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. Wuerl was previously the Bishop of Pittsburgh. "It is unacceptable that then-Bishop Wuerl ... oversaw and participated in the systematic cover-up that he did when leading the Pittsburgh Diocese and that he is now able to retire seemingly with no consequences for his actions," Shapiro said. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele and Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub were also present.

Authorities in Camden County have confirmed that the remains of a toddler were discovered in an alleyway by a passerby on Thursday, 10/11. The discovery was made around 1:30 p.m. in a trash covered cut through on the 800 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue. The passerby noticed a suspicious bag and upon further inspection saw the remains. The county medical examiner says the baby is between 1 and 2 years old. State forensic anthropologists will need to do further analysis to determine race and gender, and perhaps manner and cause of death. Downed power lines caused a major car fire near a school in Delaware County on Friday, 10/12. It happened around 11:30 a.m. on the 700 block of School Lane in Folcroft. Winds blew a tree branch onto some power lines that fell on a car parked in a residential driveway. The car caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames and smoke. The fire spread to another car in the driveway while firefighters waited until PECO de-energized the lines. This all happened across the street from the Delcroft School. No one was injured and the homes were spared.
