A gunman was shot and two female hostages were freed by SWAT following a hostage situation at a UPS facility in Gloucester County, NJ, on Monday morning, 1/14. It started around 8:30 a.m. when the suspect entered the facility in Logan Township on the 200 block of Birch Creek Road. The suspect, identified by his family as William Owens of Sicklerville, came to the facility looking for his ex-girlfriend. He fired shots early on, but no one was injured. Thirty-two employees that escaped the building were taken by buses to a nearby Holiday Inn. Owens took his ex and another woman hostage and barricaded himself inside. The situation lasted three-and-a-half-hours. Negotiators were talking with him on the phone throughout. Around 11:55 a.m., SWAT members entered the building. Shots were fired and Owens was killed. The two women were saved. The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is taking over the investigation.

"UPS greatly appreciates the work of the law enforcement personnel who responded to this morning's active shooter situation at the company's supply chain processing facilities in Logan Township, New Jersey. The incident is concluded and all of the employees are accounted for and being attended to by local officials. Support services for employees who work at the site will be provided as they recover from this unfortunate incident."

Shawny Hill, PA announcer of the NLL Philadelphia Wings, has been fired by the professional lacrosse team after making racially insensitive remarks over the public address system during a game at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, 1/12. The team made the announcement on Monday, 1/14. During the Wings lacrosse game versus the Georgia Swarm, Shawny Hill said "Let's snip the pony tail" directed at Swarm forward Lyle Thompson. Thompson wears a long braided pony tail. He is Native American and is from the Onondaga Reservation in central New York. The sport of lacrosse was invented by the Haudenosaunee or Iroquois. Thompson has been the league MVP and Rookie of the Year. Hill did apologize saying his words 'represent a lack of knowledge of heritage and history.'

A man driving a stolen SUV slammed into the corner of a brand new Brewerytown apartment building early Monday morning, 1/14. It happened around 2:30 a.m. at the corner of 31st and Master Streets. Police had tried to pull over the Mercedes ML350 because it was stolen at 31st and Oxford Streets, but the 18-year-old driver continued for two more blocks. That when he hit the corner of The Hub at 31 Brewerytown building. The glass on the building shattered and the driver was thrown from the car. He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital with a broken leg. The building was set to open in a few weeks.
