Whitney Houston, who passed away last week was celebrated in grand style at a public Homegoing ceremony. There was music, speeches and tears at the gathering at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where Houston got her musical start in the church choir.

WHITNEY was honored by many in entertainment including mentor Clive Davis, mother Cissy Houston, daughter Bobbi Kristina, cousin Dionne Warwick, sister-in law and manager Patricia Houston, ex-husband Bobby Brown (who reportedly left abruptly), Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and many others including "Bodyguard" co-star KEVIN COSTNER.

There were several performances by Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, Alicia Keys. Aretha Franklin, who was scheduled to sing "The Greatest Love of All," was ill and did not perform.

The service concluded with a stirring sermon by Marvin Winans leading those present in singing "Let The Church Say Amen", followed by a recording of Whitney Houston singing "I Will Always Love You" as her casket was wheeled out of the church.
Following the "Homegoing Service", Houston's family and her closest friends gathered for a private funeral.
