Starting Sunday night, 4/19, at 8 p.m. it will be mandatory that all customers wear a face covering or mask when inside an open store/business. All workers will have to wear face coverings or masks while they are inside of their place of work whether it is open to the public or not. Businesses are ordered to deny entry to customers who do not have a mask or face covering. However, if a customer does not have a mask AND the business is providing medication, medical supplies, or food then the business must provide an alternate way for the customer to pickup or have delivery of the goods without them entering the business. Exceptions include children under 2 or those with a medical condition that precludes them from wearing a mask. Proof of the medical condition is not required. Businesses should limit occupancy to 50% and allow for proper social distancing. The order has several other provisions for the operation of businesses. (see link below)

"This order provides critical protections for the workers needed to run and operate these life-sustaining establishments," Governor Tom Wolf said. "Businesses across the state have already begun to implement many of these protocols on their own, and we applaud their efforts to protect employees and customers."

"This order will ensure continuity across all life-sustaining businesses and will further our efforts to protect the health and safety of all Pennsylvanians," Secretary of the Department ofHeath Dr. Rachel Levine said. "Together, we can all help mitigate the spread of COVID-19."

A Toms River, New Jersey, woman was charged after organizing a protest against Gov. Phil Murphy's stay-at-home orders in Trenton on Friday, 4/17. Kim Pagan was charged by the New Jersey State Police with violating the emergency orders by organizing a prohibited event. The small protest was held outside the State House and had people holding signs and shouting "Open New Jersey now." Some cars driving by also honked horns. Pagan was issued a summons and not arrested. She'll have to appear in Municipal Court. The charge can carry up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

"I respect your right to protest but trust us on this, we're basing this on the facts, please stay home," Murphy said. Earlier this week Murphy appeared on Fox News with Tucker Carlson. Murphy was asked about the conflict between these orders and the Bill of Rights. Murphy said, "That's above my pay grade, Tucker," Murphy responded. "I wasn't thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this... we looked at all the data and the science and it says people have to stay away from each other. That is the best thing we can do to break the back of the curve of this virus, that leads to lower hospitalization and ultimately fatalities."

The Philadelphia Fire Department responded to a building collapse in Mount Airy on Sunday morning, 4/19. It happened around 10 a.m. on the 6900 block of Cresheim Road. Fire crews rescued 14 people from the the building. No one was injured. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. Residents say that a construction crew was doing work on the front of the building.
