Missing 10yo Jack Atkins Found Safe; Boil Water Advisory Lifted; 2020 Census Ends Thursday

Philadelphia Police say that a 10-year-old boy that went missing after school on Wednesday, 10/14, has been found safe. Jack Atkins never came home after leaving Immaculate Heart of Mary School in the Andorra section of Northwest Philadelphia. His bookbag was found at the intersection of Vaux and Bowman Streets in the city’s East Falls section.

A boil water advisory was lifted on Wednesday night, 10/14, for customers of Pennsylvania American Water in Montgomery County. The advisory was initially issued on Monday after a water main break at West Marshall and Markley Streets in Norristown on Monday morning, 10/12. Separate water samples taken on Tuesday and Wednesday showed acceptable results. The advisory affected around 33,000 customers.

The 2020 United States Census ends on Thursday, October 15. Although the Census Bureau says that 99.9% of housing units have been accounted for either by self-reporting or by field data collectors, the City of Philadelphia says that only 56.4% of residents have self reported. City officials say that for every Philadelphian not counted in the census, the city will lose out on $2,100 per year of federal funding for the next 10 years, totaling $21,000. The census also determines political representation. Remember to mail back your census form, postmarked 10/15. You have until 10/16 5:59 a.m. to submit via the web.
