Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Joe Sullivan announced on Friday, 1/31, that he was leaving the force effective immediately. Sullivan had been a member of the Philadelphia force for 38 years. He has said that his departure was "not my decision" and that he was told that his services "were no longer needed." As deputy commissioner he was not protected by union membership. The teenage boy wanted in the shooting death of a grandfather in Chester has been taken into custody after surrendering to police on Friday afternoon, 1/31. 14-year-old Zhafir Tinsley-Jones is charged with the murder of 79-year-old Robert Womack. It happened on Wednesday 1/29 around 5 p.m. at 3rd Street and Highland Avenue. Womack was driving when he was shot in the back of the head. It happened just after 11:30 p.m. at the Sunoco on the 2100 block of Allegheny Avenue. An argument started when employees attempted to stop two men from leaving the store without paying for items.
