Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney sent a letter to heads of the Mummer's divisions telling them that changes need to be made to address various negative aspects of the parade, including a blackface incident this year, or else the future of the long standing tradition would be in 'jeopardy.' The letter was sent to the leaders of the Comic, Fancy, Fancy Brigade, String Band, and Wench divisions. Bishop Nelson Perez to be named next Archbishop of Philadelphia

It is expected that come Thursday morning, 1/23, Pope Francis will have announced his choice for the new Archbishop of Philadelphia. The Vatican will make the official announcement at 6 a.m. and there is a local press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Archbishop Charles Chaput turned 75 last year and put in his official resignation. It is expected that Bishop Nelson Perez, of the Diocese of Cleveland, will become his successor.

Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub announced on Tuesday morning, 1/21, that they have solved a 15-year-old cold case disappearance and murder. 36-year-old Daman Smoot confessed to the murder of 26-year-old Adam Brundage of Quakertown. A SEPTA bus stopped short of going over a wall and into a creek after it had already left the highway in Montgomery County on Sunday, 1/19. It happened on the off ramp from the Schuykill Expressway (I-76) at Gulph Mills. The bus went off the road way and down an embankment. Luckily, it came to a rest before the top of a retaining wall. Three young people were shot and critically injured in the Belmont section of Philadelphia on Saturday evening, 1/18. It happened just before 8 p.m. on the 800 block of North 41st Street. A 24-year-old man was shot twice in the head and once in the chest. A 19-year-old man was shot once in the back. A 17-year-old boy was shot once in the chest and once in the thigh.
