Philadelphia authorities are investigating after the body of a woman was found in the basement of a South Philadelphia home on Thursday evening, 1/16. It happened around 5:10 p.m. on the 2100 block of Porter Street. The sheriff’s department went to the home to serve a robbery warrant to a female at the property. A 17-year-old has been charged in the deaths of his foster mother and a man who had recently been reported missing. Xavier Johnson is charged with the stabbing death of 64-year-old Renee Gilyard and 20-year-old Jimmy Mao, in separate incidents. Gilyard was found in her bathtub on the 300 block of Mechanic Street in Germantown early Wednesday morning, 1/15. Johnson has only been in her custody for three days. He stole her SUV and purse. Authorities believe that a propane leak may have caused a house to explode in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, on Tuesday morning, 1/14. It happened around 9:30 a.m. on the 4300 block of Biddeford Road. Neighbors heard and felt the explosion, some from a couple of miles away. Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a man wanted for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl last month in Chester County. 41-year-old Erick Becerril-Perez is accused of raping the girl inside her home in London Grove Township on December 28, 2019. He is also accused of inappropriately touching the girl multiple times over the past two years. The December assault was reported to police on January 7th, 2020. Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey announced on Monday, 1/13, that he was suspending his campaign for president. The senator thanked his supporters in a tweet. Booker failed to qualify for the December primary debate and also did not meet the polling requirements for Tuesday's debate in Iowa. A 23-year-old man fell to his death while jumping between rooftops in Philadelphia's Callowhill neighborhood early Saturday morning, 1/11. It happened just before 2 a.m. on the 1200 block of Buttonwood Street. The victim and two other men, who all happen to be students at Drexel University College of Medicine, were jumping between rooftops when the victim missed a jump and fell two stories to the ground. A 16-year-old girl was killed in an accident involving a school bus and a passenger car in New Castle County, Delaware, on Thursday, 1/9. It happened around 3:40 p.m. near Memorial and Karlyn Drives. Philadelphia Police have released new information in connection with the fatal hit-and-run in North Philadelphia earlier this week that killed a father of five. Police are circulating surveillance footage of a white sedan with a moonroof that was taken around the time of the accident.
