Swarthmore College's two fraternities, Delta Upsilon and Phi Psi, have voted to disband. They posted statements to their Facebook pages on Tuesday night, 4/30. The frats' decisions come after student protests calling for them to be shutdown. A few weeks ago, two campus publications, The Phoenix and Voices, published internal Phi Psi documents from 2012 to 2016. A music teacher at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor Township, Delaware County, has been accused of having sexual contact with students. Jeremy Triplett is charged with a felony count of institutional sexual assault of a minor, as well as charges of child endangerment, corruption of minors, and furnishing minors with alcohol. Philadelphia Police now say that a woman fatally struck in a supposed hit-and-run accident in West Philadelphia on Sunday morning was actually a passenger in the the vehicle and had jumped out. She has been identified as 36-year-old Abbra Johnson. It happened at 7:15 a.m. on the 4900 block of Aspen Street. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of North Jessup Street. 57-year-old Lourdes Estremera had set up a grill outside her house in an open parking spot. New Jersey Democratic Governor Phil Murphy on Friday, 4/27, ordered the state flag of Mississippi replaced in a display at Liberty State Park because it contains a Confederate emblem. The 1,200 acre park in Jersey City overlooks Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The park has a display that flies each state's flag in the spring. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Bucks County man who was hit while working in his auto body shop in Philadelphia earlier this month. 19-year-old Shabazz Sweets and 25-year-old Eric Smith are charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and other related offenses. A restaurant in Manayunk is being accused of dumping an unknown liquid down a storm drain. A neighbor posted video and photos on Facebook showing workers from Hot Pot Gourmet on Main Street pouring an orange liquid into the sewer. The restaurant has only been open for about 2 weeks. Firefighters lined the way and stood on nearly every overpass during the distinguished transfer of a US marine killed in action in Afghanistan from Dover Air Force Base to New York City on Monday morning, 4/22. Good Samaritans were able to rescue a woman after she drove her SUV into the Schuylkill River along Kelly Drive on Easter Sunday afternoon, 4/21. It happened around 4 p.m. near Midvale Avenue between the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and Columbia Railroad Bridge. Witnesses saw the woman drive straight into river, perhaps intentionally.
