Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a teenager was accidentally shot in the face by a friend who was trying to wake him up for school. The incident took place on the 5300 block Lindbergh Boulevard in Southwest Philadelphia at around 7 am on Monday. Police say that a 16-year-old boy was trying to wake up his 17-year-old friend, and as a joke, the 16-year-old boy pointed a gun at him after he repeatedly did not wake up. Yesterday afternoon, dozens of people riding bicycles took over the busy Vine Street Expressway in Center City. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. along I-676 eastbound. 100 or so kids, teens, and adults riding bikes streamed down the highway pulling stunts and popping wheelies while traffic waiting behind unable to safely pass. Convicted Philadelphia cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal had a hearing in court today in hopes of overturning his previously denied conviction appeals. Abu-Jamal is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. He was originally convicted and sentenced to death in 1982 but that sentence was reduced to life in prison in 2011. Abu-Jamal has used up all his traditional appeals. SEPTA has now begun its new modified Regional Rail schedule that went into effect starting on Sunday. SEPTA officials have stated that the new schedule will focus on adjusting the service and time of weekday and weekend trains. The schedule also focuses mainly on trains that operate on Amtrak lines to support the final phase of Positive Train Control. Philadelphia police Arrested 22 people and confiscated large amounts of marijuana following the bust of a "smokeasy" pot party in a Kensington warehouse last night. The "Philly Smoke Session" was organized on social media and held on the 4500 block of Worth Street. Nineteen males and four females were arrested. 175 others were released without being charged. Lyrids Meteor Shower Tonight in Philadelphia Skies, Partly Cloudy, Low 50's

The annual Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak overnight tonight with the best viewing just before dawn on Sunday. However, here in Philadelphia the forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies as the rain gradually moves away. If it wasn't for the clouds, the sky would be perfect for viewing since the moon is in the Waning Crescent phase phase and the skies would be dark.

A high school staff member in Chester County was arrested for sexually assaulting a teenage student. Tredyffrin Police arrested 67-year-old Arthur Phillips for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female student. Phillips has worked at Conestoga High School as an instructional aide in the television production studio since 2006. A Tennessee teacher has been arrested and a teenage girl has been found safe in Northern California after the pair disappeared last month.
