Mummers Belong in South Philly, Taney Headed for Williamport, Connie Murray Funeral Today

Some of the Mummers are not in favor of the idea to move the annual New Year's Day parade route out of South Philly. Leadership is considering starting the parade at City Hall and finishing at Washington. Members of the Jesters New Year's Brigade say the parade should maintain its connection to its South Philly roots. Brigade member Matt Ciotto commented, "Why don't we just move the Liberty Bell to South Jersey?"

Philadelphia police have charged the husband of Connie McClain-Murray in connection with her death. Around 10am Sunday morning, detectives revealed that 48-year-old Christopher Murray confessed to the crime and has been charged after failing a lie detector test. Connie McClain-Murray went out Monday night and then never returned home. She was found dead the next morning near Pennypack Park. Autopsy results show McClain-Murray tried to fight off her attacker. President Obama declared that America is coming to help as he authorized U.S. air strikes and airdrops of humanitarian aid in northern Iraq. The moves are designed to counter advancing Islamic militants who are threatening the well-being of Americans and Iraqi civilians. American planes delivered food and water to tens of thousands of Christians stranded on a mountain there.

A central New Jersey police officer is recovering after suffering serious injuries when he was dragged by a motor vehicle. The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday on Commercial Avenue near Rutgers University's Douglass Campus. The officer had an encounter with 24-year-old Donell Cook, who was in a vehicle. Cook drove away, dragging the officer approximately 50 feet until he hit a parked vehicle. Cook then allegedly attempted to disarm the officer, who was able to fight him off.Read More

An Amber Alert was triggered early this morning after two children were taken from their Drexel Hill home by their father, 31-year-old Keith Belajonas, after he allegedly killed his wife, 28-year-old Christina Corrigan Belajonas. The man and two sons ended up in Staten Island, NY, where he held up a CVS, leaving his kids with his brother who works there. The man who shot and killed his wife this morning in Drexel Hill and abducted his two sons has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot in Staten, Island New York. 32 year old Keith Belajonas killed his wife, drove the two boys aged 4 and 6 to relatives in New York, left alone and drove to parking lot where he shot himself in the head. An amber alert was issued this morning for two boys aged 4 and 6 after their mother was found dead in Drexel Hill. The woman was found shot in the head at her apartment, perhaps killed by her husband, identified as 32 year old Keith Belajonas. They left the scene in a dark gray Nissan X-Terra SUV with PA license plate JDH7477.

The bankruptcy auction of the Revel Casino Hotel that was scheduled for Thursday has been postponed until next week because lawyers need more time to review the bids made on the casino. The auction was rescheduled for Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. Revel, Atlantic City's newest casino is in bankruptcy court for the second time in a little over a year. Executives say the $2.4 billion casino will close and fire its 3,200 employees if a buyer cannot be found.

Philadelphia Police have confirmed that a mother of two discovered yesterday in Pennypark Park in the Northeast was strangled. The Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide by strangulation this afternoon after performing an autopsy. There were no signs of sexual assault. Police are investigating the death of 46 year old Constance Murray who was found in Pennypack Park yesterday morning. Murray had gone out for a jog about 9 pm Monday and did not return. Her husband filed a missing persons report about 5 hours later. She was found a few blocks from her home by a passerby on a wooded trail. Cause of death is under investigation.
