More than 60,000 people jammed the beach in Atlantic City yesterday for a free concert with country music artist Blake Shelton. Ticket holders came from 48 states according to Ticketmaster. Another free concert is coming this weekend when country music stars, Lady Antebellum will take the stage on the beach on Sunday.

A timely start to the Philadelphia school year is even more uncertain at word the state house won’t consider the cigarette tax on Monday. Superintendent Dr. William Hite has said 1,300 layoff notices would go out August 15 without money from the cigarette tax. A new union contract now allows Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey to rotate officers out of the Narcotics and Internal Affairs divisions. The 3-year contract was issued today by an arbitration panel and the new provisions are a timely relief for the commissioner who has wanted this ability but was prevented by the past contract with Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5. Carjack Crash Victim Released from Hospital; Giant Snake in NJ; Consecrated Virgins in Philadelphia

One of the women injured in the deadly carjacking crash in North Philadelphia has been released from the hospital. 69 year old Thelma Brown is recovering at home. The mother of the three children killed is still hospitalized in a coma. All were hit by the carjacked vehicle while selling fruit to support their church last week. Both suspects are facing murder charges.

Police in Burlington County are asking for the public's help in identifying a man and a woman wanted in connection with the use of a police officer’s stolen credit card. Maple Shade Police say an officer's personal vehicle was burglarized on Wednesday and his wallet containing his badge, police identification, driver's license, several credit cards, and cash was taken. Six Philadelphia Police narcotics officers were arrested this morning on a litany of federal corruption charges. All six men pled not guilty at a pre-arraignment hearing in a federal courtroom. The 26 count federal indictment identifies officers Thomas Liciardello, Brian Reynolds, Michael Spicer, Perry Betts, John Speiser and Linwood Norman. Forbes magazine has released it's annual rankings of colleges and universities. The rankings are based on five categories which include postgraduate success (32.5%), which evaluates alumni pay and prominence; student satisfaction (25%), which includes professor evaluations and freshman-to-sophomore retention rates; debt (25%), which penalizes schools for high student debt loads and default rates; four-year graduation rates (7.5%); and academic success (10%), which rewards schools whose students... Six former Philadelphia police narcotics officers have been arrested and are in federal custody on corruption charges. The federal grand jury probe is said to go back to January. The officers allegedly used their guns, badges and uniforms in robberies of drug dealers. Commissioner Charles Ramsey had pulled all the officers off the street several months ago when the probe began.

North Philadelphia Car Crash Anti-Violence Rally

Anti-violence groups led a rally at the North Philadelphia intersection where three children were killed in last week's carjacking and crash. It was at Germantown and Allegheny, where 7-year-old Terrence Moore, 10-year-old Joseph Reed and 15-year-old Keiearra Williams had their lives taken away. Suspects Jonathan Rosa and Cornelius Crawford are facing murder, carjacking, sexual assault and other serious charges. They are being held without bail.

The mother of one of the accused carjackers charged with murdering three children by running them over in a stolen SUV last week was offered the $110,000 reward but turned it down. Police credit 19-year-old Jonathan Rosa's mother with cracking the case and ultimately helping them bring in both suspects.
