Annual Polar Bear plunges on New Year's Day have become more popular as fundraisers in recent years. Yesterday, the 23rd annual Polar Bear plunge in Atlantic City attracted hundreds of people to strip down and take the plunge into water temperatures in the 40's. Organizers dispute the notion that exposure to extreme elements makes you susceptible to colds. The event raises thousands of dollars for the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

Scores of former gang leaders came together Wednesday in Northwest Philadelphia to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Imani pledge - the ceasefire promise that ended the years of gang wars that plagued the city during the 1960s and 70s. If you like fireworks, you have two opportunities to ring in the new year with a colorful blast at Penn's Landing over the Delaware River. The first show is at 6 pm tonight. Then they re-load and do it again at midnight. The displays will take place just south of the Ben Franklin Bridge and will be visible for miles anywhere along the banks of the Delaware.

Philadelphia residents can start dropping off their Christmas trees for recycling on Monday, January 6th. The Streets Department says the program will run for two weeks through Saturday, Jan. 18. Residents may drop off their trees for recycling at any of the following Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

Monsignor William Lynn will be granted bail while his conviction on child endangerment goes through the appeals process. Judge Teresa Sarmina set bail at $250,000, requiring 10 percent to post. Lynn will also have to wear an electronic monitoring anklet while out on bail. Sarmina said that she wants Lynn to appear before her in person so that she can explain the full conditions of his release. The Eagles won the NFC East last night with a hard fought victory over the Dallas Cowboys. After last year's 4-12 last place finish, most Eagles fans, including this one, hoped for 6 maybe 8 wins under new coach Chip Kelly. But these Eagles have surprised everyone, except maybe themselves. They won the NFC East Division by escaping Dallas with a 24-22 victory at AT&T Stadium, thanks to a late fourth-quarter interception by Brandon Boykin. A car crash this afternoon in Delaware County caused a gas leak and evacuation. The incident happened around 4:15 p.m on the 400 block of Darby Terrace in Darby, PA. A woman trying to parallel park hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and accelerated into a house hitting the gas meter. Dozens of homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. PECO was called to the scene to repair the gas line and metere. People have since been allowed to return to their home.

A bail hearing has been set for Monday for former Archdiocese of Philadelphia official William Lynn after his child-endangerment conviction was overturned. Lynn will not be in attendance for this hearing as he is still incarcerated in state prison in Northeast Pennsylvania.
