The Philadelphia Phillies announced today the return of Larry Bowa and Pete Mackanin to the coaching staff. This will be Bowa's fourth different stint with the Phillies franchise over his career. Bowa, a Hall of Fame player, played shortstop for the Phils from 1970-1981, was third base coach from 1988-1996, and was club manager from 2001-2004. A seven year old at Pennell Elementary school sustained second degree burns on his cheek after he smashed a hot packet of turkey taco meat served in the school cafeteria. The school district admits the food should not be that hot. There was also no school nurse on hand.

SEPTA Bus Fire, 76ers Together We Build, I-676 EB Reopens

SEPTA officials say eight people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation after a bus fire in West Oak Lane Monday night. The fire broke out in the right wheel area of a Route 22 bus near Broad Street and Olney Avenue. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Flyers Fire Coach Laviolette; Mother and Son Were Dead Before Fire; Woman who Hit Bus on Blvd. Dies

The Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette today after an 0-3 start. Assistant Craig Berube, in his seventh season with the organization, will take over as the 18th coach in Flyers history. Laviolette was hired early into the 2009 season and led the Flyers to the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. They made the playoffs the next two seasons but failed last season. A woman and two children are dead following a car accident on Route 29 in Trenton, Sunday afternoon. Jennifer Dawson of Bensalem was driving North on Route 29 when she lost control of her car and drifted into the southbound lanes. Her car was then struck by a pickup truck. The three passengers in Dawson’s car — her 28-year-old daughter, and her two granddaughters, were all pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of a woman and a boy were discovered Saturday morning in the Wissinoming section of Philadelphia after a fire. Firefighters responded to an apartment building on the 4600 block of Howell Street just before 9 a.m. Inside the apartment they found a bloody mattress in the living room. Further in the first floor apartment, they found another mattress inside a closet that was on fire. Local competitive eating champion, 'El Wingador,' has been sentenced to 7 years in prison on cocaine charges. William Simmons, 51, of Woodbury Heights, NJ, pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine back in July. He was arrested in June 2012 in an undercover sting with around $8,000 worth of the drug and $4,000 in cash. Simmons has been apologetic since his arrest. Three Day Walk for Breast Cancer, Parent Complaints on Schools, Grant Money for Phila Waterfront

They will walk 60 miles to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. This morning 1.200 participants in the Three Day Walk for The Cure started at the Willow Grove Mall. Some are walking in memory of a loved one lost to breast cancer. All are fighting for advancement against cancer. They will wind their way across the city over the next 3 days and finish at the Navy Yard.
