Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan made a stop in our area today, giving most of us a first glimpse at the Congressman from Wisconsin. Mitt Romney's running mate spoke at a rally outside the American Helicopter Museum & Education Center in West Chester to a crowd of about 3000. He spoke about Medicare and the attention his controversial plan to convert the program to a cash payout instead of a guaranteed federal health benefit for future retirees has received since his selection.... Mitt Romneys running mate, Paul Ryan, is in town today, He campaigned in Pittsburgh this morning, then the West Chester helicopter museum this afternoon and a fundraiser at the Union League in Philadelphia this evening. Ryan, the House budget chairman is a champion for cutting spending on social programs and creating a Medicare voucher program.

Three daycare employees from the Hands of Our Future Daycare in Delaware were arrested Monday after a cell phone video showed employees watching and encouraging two 3-year-olds fight each other while under their care. Tiana Harris, Lisa Parker and Estefania Myers were charged with Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Reckless Endangering and Conspiracy for the incident, which occurred in March of 2012. An $88,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for the murder of Police Officer Moses Walker Jr. On Saturday Aug 18, just before 6am, Officer Walker was walking in the 2000 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue where two males approached him in an attempted robbery. He was shot several times and the suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. Philadelphia Folk Festival Sunday Straightforward Folk ends with a New Orleans Romp

Sunday on the Old Pool Farm continued with business as usual in the tiny temporary town. Volunteers in the meal tent were serving food to the constant stream of other volunteers with smiles and dancing. Showcases and workshops were happening on the side stages throughout the early afternoon. Kids were enjoying the performers in Dulcimer Grove. The skies may have been overcast but that didn't affect anyone's mood.

Philadelphia Folk Festival Saturday Brings the Rock to Folk

Saturday broke on the Old Pool Farm and the remnants of the rains from Friday night could only be seen in the mud patches throughout the grounds. The sky was full of patches of sun and puffy clouds and the humidity was gone with just warm pleasant temperatures. The activity started early with musical acts on all the smaller stages at 11 am. Small crowds gathered at either the Tank, Craft, Lobby, or Camp stages to hear a variety of intimate performances and terrific collaborations.

Reward Now $35,000, West Nile Virus in Bucks County, Bullet Train Hearing

The reward is $35,000 and the manhunt continues today for the man who gunned down Philadelphia Police Officer Moses Walker Saturday. Walker was shot in what investigators believe was a robbery gone bad as Walker was walking to the bus on his way home after his shift at 20th and Cecil B. Moore. Office Walker will be buried with full police honors.

As the search for fallen Philadelphia Police Officer Moses Walker Junior's killer intensified and a reward for information leading to an arrest increased to $35,000, his family and friends held a candlelight vigil on Sunday evening to honor his memory and to mourn his loss. The first full day of activity at the Philadelphia Folk Fest certainly got off on the right foot. Most of the acts scheduled to play both on Main Stage in the afternoon and the Lobby stage in the late morning/early afternoon were locally sourced, Philadelphia based bands.
