Two vacant home collapsed in South Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, 7/21. It happened just after Noon on the 700 block of Mercy Street. One of the homes was completely vacant, while the other was currently under construction. Crews from Eastern Contracting were working inside this morning but were out on a lunch break when it came down. License and Inspections says that the workers did have a permit. A street mural written in bold, capital yellow letters was painted on Friday night, 7/17, along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway outer lanes near 22nd Street. It reads 'I WILL BREATHE' meant to be an evolution of 'I Can't Breathe' which are the last words of Eric Garner and George Floyd used by many protestors calling for police reform.
