Sports Illustrated Super Bowl LII Covers; Pedestrian Hit on I-95N; 19yo Shot/Killed in Olney

Sports Illustrated released two covers of their magazine covering Super Bowl LII. One features New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The other features Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. Foles is described as the Ultimate Underdog, going from backup to playoff starter twice and now the big game. SI is also picking the Pats 27-16 over the Birds. Also, on Tuesday the Patriots chose to wear their white road jerseys. The Eagles will wear midnight green.

The nearly 3-day federal government shutdown ended on Monday night when President Donald Trump signed a temporary funding bill that will keep operations afloat until Feb. 8. The impasse started on Saturday at midnight and lasted 69 hours. Police report that most Philadelphians were well enough behaved before and after Sunday's NFC Championship. There was quite a lot of partying and revelry in the streets all over the city after the Philadelphia Eagles clinched their bid to Super Bowl LII, but most celebrations were peaceful. PA Supreme Court Throws Out District Map; Bill Cosby Jury Selection; Deadly South Jersey Fire

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court threw out the current boundaries of the 18 congressional districts on Monday. Registered Democrats had filed a lawsuit last June saying that the districts, which were redrawn in 2010, were unconstitutionally gerrymandered to benefit Republicans. The court said that the map "clearly, plainly and palpably" violate the state's constitution and cannot be used for the 2018 elections. Two men arguing led to gunfire in the early morning hours of Sunday, outside of a South Philadelphia movie theatre. The shooting took place at around 1 am on Sunday outside of the United Artist Riverview Plaza Stadium located on the 1400 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard. Police say the men arrived Warmdaddy's restaurant, next door to the theatre, they both pulled guns out at each other and opened fire. 10s of thousands descended upon the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia for the 2nd Annual Women's March in support of a wide array of women's rights. The march was done in solidarity with similar demonstrations across the country. Marchers donned pink hats and others carried signs stating their cause or their opposition to current policy. Police in Camden, NJ are searching for a 17-year-old male wanted in the shooting death of another 17-year-old last week. Damann Alford of Clementon is charged with 1st degree murder. It happened around 1:20 p.m. on January 8th at the intersection of 29th and Clinton Streets. Alford is described as an African American, brown eyes, black hair, 5' 10”, 160 lbs. Philadelphia Police are now investigating a deadly incident that occurred in the Oxford section of Philadelphia. The incident happened on the 5900 block of Belden Street just after 1 pm on Thursday. Officials say that a 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arguing inside of a home, when the man approached her with a knife and slit her throat. When medics arrived on the scene the woman was pronounced dead. Police took the man into custody and recovered a weapon at the scene. Read More

A U.S. Marshal was shot and killed and two police officers were injured while serving an arrest warrant in Harrisburg, PA on Thursday morning. It happened around 6:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Mulberry Street in a residential area of the state capital. The task force had entered the home and handcuffed the arrest suspect Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce when a man on the second floor opened fire on the officers. Man Shot In Grocery Store; First PA Medical Marijuana Dispensary; Philly Suing Opioid Companies

Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a man was shot and killed in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The shooting took place at a grocery store on the 3300 block of North 6th Street at around 7:05 pm. The 22-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso. He was transported to Temple University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. There was no weapon left behind at the crime scene and police are still searching for the suspect.
