A fire in North Philadelphia this morning has claimed the life of a veteran firefighter and a resident of the home. 42-year-old Lt. Matt LeTourneau, an 11-year veteran, was pulled from the fire after an interior collapse. Two other firefighters were also injured as well as a neighbor who was taken to the hospital in critical

Just days after being sworn in, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has started making sweeping changes to the office. On Friday, he fired 31 assistant district attorneys, including many veterans and some on homicide cases. Those dismissed today described being called in, told the news, and escorted out with a box of their belongings and without explanation. After the 'bomb cyclone' that struck the east coast on Thursday, the City of Philadelphia lifted the snow emergency Thursday night at 8 pm. City officials also announced that the city government offices will be closed on Friday due to the extreme temperatures and the threat of hazardous travel conditions that may arise from the snowfall. Today's snowstorm dropped modest amounts of snow around the Philadelphia area, but closer to the shore they officially experienced blizzard conditions. The National Weather Service defines a blizzard as 35 mph winds, less than ¼ mile visibilities, and large amounts of blowing and drifting snow for at least 3 hours. Authorities say that a shooting that left two people dead in Northampton has been declared a murder-suicide. The shooting took place on the 300 block of West 27th Street at around 9:45 pm on Tuesday. Police say that 45-year-old Matthew Eberhardt shot and killed his wife, Kristin Eberhardt, before turning the gun on himself. One of the bodies was found on the front yard of the home. With a major winter storm bearing down on the Delaware Valley, everyone in the area is preparing. The Jersey Shore is expecting the brunt with Blizzard Warnings and 6-10 inches forecast. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect along the I-95 corridor and the Philadelphia area with 5-7 inches possible. Areas north and west will see less snow. (see map at bottom of page.) The technical term for this type of storm growth is 'bombogenesis,' literally like a bomb went off in the atmosphere to create it. Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a woman was found dead inside of a minivan at a strip mall in Northeast Philadelphia. The van was found with a cloth outside the window, which usually indicates an abandoned car. Upon further investigation, a body was found inside. The body was found by two pedestrians on their way to work. Longtime defense and civil rights attorney, Larry Krasner, was sworn in today as Philadelphia's new District Attorney. He took his oath of office on Tuesday in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center. Krasner has promised to make changes in the justice system. Tuesday is the inauguration day for the new District Attorney elect in Philadelphia. Larry Krasner will take the oath of office on Tuesday morning at the Kimmel Center in Center City Philadelphia. Krasner is a long time civil rights attorney. He will be succeeding former DA Seth Williams who resigned from office in June after he plead guilty to corruption charges and is currently serving a 5 year prison sentence.
