Man Drives Cab Through Rittenhouse Square; NJ Woman Sentenced; Bill To Punish Sanctuary Cities

Police have now arrested a shirtless man who drove a stolen taxi through Rittenhouse Square on Monday. The suspect apparently assaulted a cab driver and was able to steal the cab and drive off. He then proceeded to drive through Rittenhouse Square and then crashed into a light post on 18th and Walnut Streets. Police were able to quickly apprehend the man and have taken him into Police custody. Police believe the suspect was under the influence and are testing him with a DUI test kit.... Read More

A Syrian immigrant family that was detained at Philadelphia International Airport last Saturday and then put back on a plane hours later amid President Trump's travel ban has arrived back in the United States. SEPTA Trains Damaged On Market-Frankford Line; PA Amber Alert; Police Investigate Powelton Murder

SEPTA Officials have announced that the Market-Frankford line will be running with 40 trains short (1/3 of the fleet) on Monday. Officials stated that they are suspending the select trains because they found cracks in the support beams of two rail cars. The shortage of cars will have a big impact on travel times, especially with the morning rush. From 6-10 am, and 3-7 pm there will be no A/B service, so trains will be making all stops. Fallen Delaware Department of Corrections Officer Sgt. Steven Floyd was posthumously elevated to the rank of lieutenant and was awarded the medal of valor on Friday afternoon. Floyd was taken hostage with three others on Wednesday by inmates at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. He did not survive the ordeal. Pennsylvania Turnpike officials have now stated that the Delaware River Bridge, which connects the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes, will need to be closed for another 2 months while crews make mandatory repairs. Crews found a stress fracture in one of the beams under the bridge last week, which caused the bridge to shut down. Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the 2015 murder of a Port Richmond woman. 28-year-old James Jones is charged with criminal homicide, burglary, robbery and a list of related offenses. It happened on July 30, 2015 on the 3000 block of Aramingo Ave. Police found 22-year-old Stephanie Dzikowski shot to death in a second floor bedroom. Her 2-year-old daughter was in the room with her. Philadelphia Police are now searching for a suspect that they say stole a SUV with a baby inside of it on Thursday night. The incident happened near 8th and Snyder streets at around 5:30 pm on Thursday evening. Police say that the suspect jumped in the SUV and that it had the 19-month baby in the back seat. A 17-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police force turned himself in on Wednesday on multiple domestic-related incidents. 51-year-old officer Gerald Smith has now been charged with six-misdemeanors including assault and terroristic threats. Police say that Smith had punched a 46-year-old woman in the eye in January of 2016, as well as backhanding her in the chest during an argument in June. A nearly 20-hour hostage situation at a Delaware state prison ended early this morning when authorities used a backhoe to breach the building. One of the remaining hostages, 47-year-old Sgt. Steven Floyd, was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital. The other remaining hostage, a female counselor, was rescued unharmed. A federal jury acquitted Pennsylvania senator Larry Farnese on Wednesday, after he was under investigation on charges that he spent $6,000 of campaign money as bribes to help him win a Democratic Party ward leadership election in 2011. The acquittal comes after 5 days of testimony from Farnese.
