One of the Philadelphia Eagles all time greats passed away Thursday evening of pneumonia in Lancaster. Steve Van Buren was a member of the Eagles' 1948 and 1949 NFL championship teams. He was drafted in 1944 out of Louisiana State University and immediately made an impact. The bruising running back was the first Eagle to be inducted into the NFL Half of Fame in Canton, OH, in 1965. Less than a week after he was killed, Police have one of two suspects in custody and charges have been filed against Rafael Jones in the murder of off-duty Officer Moses Walker Jr. Jones confessed to Homicide detectives late Wednesday night after being apprehended on a bench warrant for missing a parole appointment, at which he was going to receive his electronic monitoring device. Authorities are investigating the cause of a four-alarm fire in Allentown that injured five firefighters Thursday morning. The fire quickly reached four-alarm status and damaged eight row homes, displacing several families. Five firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and dehydration. Philadelphia School Partnership raises $50 Million; Lennon's Killer Denied Parole for 7th Time

Mark David Chapman has been denied parole for the 7th time after a hearing in front of a three member board on Wednesday. Chapman was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Chapman shot and killed former Beatle John Lennon outside his New York Apartment building, the Dakota, in December 1980. Philadelphia Police have taken a 'person of interest' into custody for the killing of Officer Moses Walker Jr. The unidentified man was arrested this afternoon around 3pm at the Bartram Village Apartments in Southwest Philadelphia after failing to report for a probation appointment. Philadelphia has the first independently run Catholic school system in the United States. Archbishop Charles Chaput signed a 5 year agreement with the recently formed, Faith in the Future, to manage Philadelphia's 17 high schools and 4 special eds.
