Monsignor Lynn Bail Appeal Denied, Ocean City Beaches Closed, Garrett Reid Cause of Death Pending

Monsignor William Lynn was denied bail today. Lynn is serving 3 to 6 years for his role in the clergy abuse case and had requested bail pending appeal. The judge ruled Lynn has no right to bail and would not hear any argument. Now, the Archdiocese is drastically cutting back funding Lynn's defense and 2 of his four lawyers are no longer on the case.

The Philadelphia Eagles family is dealing with the death of Andy Reid's oldest son Garrett at Eagles training camp at Lehigh University. Garrett Reid who was working with the Eagles strength and conditioning coaches, was found dead in his dorm room. Suicide and foul play have been ruled out. The funeral is tomorrow in Broomall.

NASA Curiosity Rover has landed safely on Mars

NASA's latest exploration has reached its target and landed safely on Mars at about 1:34 am EST. Instead of using balloons or parachutes, this landing is using rockets to ensure a smooth landing on the surface of the red planet, but it is very risky. The NASA scientists were able to navigate a perfect landing, however. After a nearly 8 month journey and 570 million km journey from Earth, the rover is ready to go to work.

Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead Sunday morning in his room at the club's training camp at Lehigh University. He was 29. The police chief at Lehigh, Edward Shupp, said a 911 call was made at 7:20 a.m., and that Garrett Reid was deceased upon a policeman’s arrival at the campus dormitory. Garrett Reid had rebounded from his troubled past and was assisting the Eagles’ strength coaches at camp.

Forbes magazine has released it's annual rankings of colleges and universities. Forbes' list, although popular, sometimes gets criticized for it's ranking method. The road ahead for the School District of Philadelphia doesn't look good after the release Thursday of the findings of an independent consultant. At the top of the list of recommendations: the district should close between 29 and 77 schools over the next five years. The consultant found the district has far too many empty desks and needs to close dozens of schools to increase the percentage of desks filled, getting that figure closer to 85 or 90 percent. Arrests in Home Invasion Attacks, Joe Butterball Tamburro Rests

Philadelphia police arrested a suspect in the attack of an 87 year old and her son during a home invasion on Tuesday in West Philly. The suspect, Jimmy Morrison, was arrested in Chester County after he gave a fake name during a traffic stop. The victims, Yvonne Gaines and her 62 year old son James Brinkly are recovering from their stab wounds.

Gunman Arrested on SEPTA Train, Human Trafficking Sentence, Closing Up to 57 Schools Recommended

A heavily armed gunman was arrested Tuesday evening on a crowded SEPTA train. An alert passenger notified police when they noticed a man board the train at City Hall with a gun protruding from his bag. It turned out to be an AK 47 assault rifle. He also had a 38 caliber handgun, a 12 inch bayonet knife, live ammo, $700 in cash, marijuana and 22 Percocet pills. Jermal Ponds is being held on $100k bail.
